Zebra Crossing

The zebra track is very similar to that of a horse, not really surprising considering all the other similarities between the two species. However, there are the two distinct triangular shapes that can be seen on the horseshoe-shaped track. These are from an organ referred to as a “frog”. It is believed that this unusual organ helps with blood circulation in the legs and feet by acting like a pressure pump.

Early settlers tried time and again to ride zebras, domesticate them and use them to pull carts or carry loads. But they were largely unsuccessful. Zebras are shorter and squatter than domestic horses. Their backs are much weaker, so although on first glance the two animals seem very similar, they are very different. The zebra has no intention of being domesticated.
