Summer Has Arrived

For those of us who are fortunate enough to live in the Greater Kruger National Park area, there is something we all wait for with great anticipation every November: the return of the Woodlands Kingfisher.

This small electric blue and white bird is a summer visitor and usually arrives in the Timbavati around mid-November. It has become a bit of a tradition between the safari guides to compete for the position of first to hear the shrill call of this gorgeous creature. So it was with great excitement this week when we could finally announce the return of the Woodlands Kingfisher and with them their echoing high pitched call, one that has come to represent the “sound of summer” at Tanda Tula.

Now we all await for the arrival of the impala babies…..watch this space!
