Four day old rhino calf discovered

Every so often we are fortunate enough to witness a remarkable sighting, and on Thursday evening we were treated to something really special. This was not only special for us and our guests, but for the entire Timbavati, as what we saw in front of us was a four day old rhino calf with a very proud mother.

Tanda Tula is appalled at the current escalating levels of rhino poaching across the country, and in particular in the Kruger National Park area. So when we see something as special as this, we feel as though nature has fought back, and produced something truly incredible.

Shortly before we arrived, the little calf had been seen playing in the mud with mom a few metres away, cooling off in the water. We had a few moments with them before they moved off into the thick bush and down towards the dry riverbed.
