Eagle Owl self-catering camp in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

The lack of fences between Kruger National Park and the Timbavati camp results in access to a wide range of game, including the Big five. Located within the Timbavati lies a majestic camp called Eagle Owl. This is a luxury private, self-catering camp overlooking the glorious Machatane River banks.

How it all began

Firstly, the Timbavati Nature Reserve was established in 1995 as a premier Eco-tourism destination. In 1992 the western boundary fence separating the Kruger National Park and the Timbavati was removed to create a 2.2 million hectare open, natural ecosystem.

The Machatane Riverbed acts as a bush hide away, allowing nature lovers to view the breath-taking wildlife from the safety of the camp.

The camp

The camp is predominantly surrounded by Bush Willows and large indigenous Apple Leaf trees. Thus, a tranquil hideaway and relaxed atmosphere for animal watchers is created. The serene surroundings are also perfect for birdwatching.

Whether its a private get away for two nature lovers, a family holiday or a corporate week away, Eagle Owl is the ideal location. The camp offers two game drives daily. The first, with a stop for morning coffee, and the second with a stop for sunset drinks. Crossing over 12000 hectares of prime gaming grounds and low animal fencing, spotting game is the order of the day - everyday. As a result, regular sightings include: Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and general game.

Activities

In addition, a bushwalk with a qualified guide and tracker is available. This activity is recommended for the city slickers looking to get up close and intimate with nature. Eagle Owl is the ideal place to create the optimal private bush experience.

A refreshing dip in the swimming pool is advised after a long bush walk in the heat of the day.

Furthermore, tourist activities such as day excursions to Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, Timbavati Museum and Kapama Cheetah Project can be arranged.

Facilities

The accommodation includes 4 luxury en-suite chalets, each with its own private deck looking over the river. Each chalet has a fully equipped open plan kitchen with the option of hiring a chef to prepare meals.

The daily cleaning staff ensures one gets more time to explore the great outdoors. The added option of self-ordering groceries and beverages to be delivered to the camp adds to the luxurious spoils of the self-catering camp.

Finally, the camp also offers a fully stocked bar with a lounge area and a TV. The camp is equipped with an outside fire pit overlooking the river, ideal for storytelling. There's also an enclosed boma for cuddling up to, on chilli nights.
